I wonder what will happen...

Hello Friends,

Another sleepless night...I sit here in front of my computer looking through your blogs smiling as I venture around and then "bam"  reality hits once again.  Have you ever been so full of angst about something that it renders you sleepless?  As some of you may already know, I have been diagnosed with a malformation at the base of my skull and tip of my spinal cord, (read about it here) called Chiari Malformation.  It's pretty serious and will have surgery April 12 at Stanford Medical Center.  I will be off of work 1 to 3 months.

Right now as I sit here, I don't want to have this surgery but I know that if I don't, may headaches will continue, my vision will get worse, and potentially this condition will start to affect may spinal cord which will lead to another surgery and additional debilitating symptoms.  Right now I am finding that my fine motor skills are being affected and I have days where I am dizzy and feel drunk, literally. But even with this I have doubts, why I don't know.  Please keep me in your prayers and thank you for allowing me to peruse your blogs.

Peppa's Dream - My new blog

Wow, I finally did it.  I have been thinking out closing down my old blog and opening up a new one.  It just seemed like such a waste though.  So I thought, and thought about it and so I decided to take the plunge and go for it.  All I knew is that I did not want to loose my old posts and most especially my blog friends.  I was able to move everything over - well almost everything - I couldn't bring you with me though, sad...so sad.  I hope you find me and I will make an effort to leave comments on your blogs so that you know I have a new blog - Peppa's Dream.  Why the name you ask?  My Peppa was a great aunt on my fathers side  whom I adored.  She wanted to be called Peppa and nothing else and would scoled you if you called her anything else.  Lately she's been on my mind and when I was trying to come up with a name for my new blog her name just popped right up and  stuck a cord with me.  I began to wonder what she might be like now if she were alive and what she might have dreamed for herself - I wish I had been older.  So here's to you my Peppa - for all the love you gave all of your first grandkids - cause you loved us just like that.

Oh yes, the frame I used on my header is from the The Graphics Fairy.  Check her website out, she has many free downloadable graphics.

Missed all of you...but I have a good excuse!

I guess it's time to divulge what has been going on with me.  Ladies it has not been good.

This last year, 2011, was pretty hard on me both physically and emotionally.  I literally thought I was becoming a hypochondriac or was loosing my mind.  I've suffered from migraines for most of my life, however this past year they worsened and I started developing other symptoms.  Extreme fatigue, pressure headaches that worsened when I strained coughed or sneezed, my voice became hoarse, vision problems and dizziness.  Most recently my feet and hands are feeling numb and they tingle when idle.  I know, I know, I sound out of my mind huh?  Well after all the work up and several MRI's, I have a diagnosis - I have Chiari Malformation l - basically my cerebellum has descended into my spinal cord about 1.5 cm., and is interrupting the flow of the protecting fluid that circulates around the brain and spinal cord.  Apparently I was born with this condition and no wonder I have been feeling so lousy.

I was seen at the Stanford Medical Center Neurology Clinic in Palo Alto yesterday will have surgery to correct the problem soon.  It was a struggle getting to this diagnosis, mainly because Chiari Malformation l is not a very well known disease and not many doctors are familiar with the condition.  I am happy that I took the initiative to look into things further and that my doctor did not hesitate to consider my requests or to refer me to specialists.  Ladies don't give up - if you know you feel sick and out of sorts, be persistent, do your research  and hopefully you have a primary doctor like mine - love Dr. Cruz - such a caring and humble doctor.

I will keep you posted as to when I will have my surgery, probably the end of April or May.  We'll see how things progress. My goal is to finish the school year or until we start winding down but my condition will ultimately dictate this.

Please keep me in your prayers and don't worry, you'll still see me lurking through your blogs.
